The year thus far has been an extremely challenging one, not only for Woodside Sanctuary but for everyone around the world. We, personally, have been faced with many unprecedented challenges during this time and have needed to find solutions (to these as well as all the regular challenges which we face on a yearly basis) in order to be able to keep our doors open and to continue to offer our services to some of the most vulnerable in our society, persons with profound intellectually and physical disabilities who require lifelong care.
Some of the most challenging aspects of the COVID-19 outbreak, has been to try and maintain the health and wellbeing of all at Woodside, from our extremely immunocompromised residents to the dedicated staff who provide them with care. To do this we were left with no choice but to purchase, at our own expense, enough PPE for all our staff, and additional cleaning chemicals to help ensure the high standard of hygienic cleanliness and sterility throughout the home. Thankfully this strategy has proven successful, and while we did have some COVID positive results at Woodside, all our residents were asymptomatic and none have succumbed to this devastating virus.
While it was crucial that we focus on the prevention of COVID throughout our Sanctuary, we still needed to place priority on the provision of care to all our residents. Sadly, the profoundly intellectually disabled children and adults who we provide full-time care for, will never be able to care for themselves or filter into normal society, therefore, this is an ongoing project and will require constant funding to help us ensure that Woodside will be able to continue to offer our essential services and support to those most in need. The GlobalGiving community and the generous assistance we have received from all those who have donated to our campaign, has contributed greatly in reducing the overhead costs of the Sanctuary and thus has enabled us to be able to remain operational even during these difficult times. The incredible amount of $5116.98 (funds thus far received through distributions), that converts to R84 858.72, has enabled us to be able to continue to provide food, medications, toiletries, a hygienic and clean place of safety, holistic care and stimulation for the 25 Profoundly Intellectually disabled orphans and vulnerable angels in our care.
Like many NPOs, Woodside Sanctuary is heavily reliant on the kindness and generosity of our donors and supporters and it is only with their compassionate assistance that we are able to continue to maintain the highest standards of care, provide excellent nursing, medical and residential care for all who live here. On behalf of Woodside Sanctuary and especially the angels in our care, we simply cannot thank our donors and supporters enough for their incredible generosity and kindness, during this exceedingly difficult time. Your care and compassion is what keeps us going, and we are eternally grateful to you for all you have done to help and support us! Thank you!!
