Hello GlobalGiving Community,
We are well aware that our attention is constantly pulled in different directions by the many tragedies and catastrophes of our unstable times. However, we find that the best antidote to anxiety is to do what we can, however little, to help our communities.
Our initiative, "Preventing Food Waste and Feeding Families", aims to tackle the issue of food waste by rescuing visually imperfect but perfectly fresh produce and distributing it to families in need. In a world where fresh produce is often too expensive for destitute families, refugees, homeless individuals, mothers, and children, we believe that every person deserves access to nutritious meals.
Unfortunately, due to marketing strategies and societal pressures, farmers are forced to discard a significant portion of their produce because it does not meet the standards of perfection. This not only results in a tremendous waste of resources but also harms the environment.
Crete For Life has been actively working in southeast Crete, one of Greece's main agricultural areas, to collect, store, and distribute fresh produce to those in need. However, to keep this project running and expand it to meet the ever-growing needs, we require your support to cover the fixed costs associated with collecting, storing, and shipping the vegetables.
While we have not yet made significant progress or impact, we remain optimistic and committed to reducing food waste and providing essential nutrients to families in need. With your help, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Let's stop wasting and start nourishing!
