Our true stories #1

By Sevi Matsakidou | Project Leader

Dear GlobalGivers,

We, at El Sistema Greece, greatly appreciate your donation and your generosity. Our mission is to inspire children through music and your support plays a key role in achieving our goals. Children deserve to have everything and our way to be by their side is by providing free music education.

Through the help of your donation, we continue to support our students and we have many true stories to share with you. This time, we chose to tell you about an 11-years old girl from Egypt. We met her in December 2018 when she was coming to our headquarters every week, sitting in the waiting room, waiting patiently for her older brother to finish his class. We asked her several times if she would like to join our classes but her answer was always negative. After two months she finally -as we hoped and expected- entered the room saying ‘’Now I am ready’’. It was her first singing lesson ever. Very soon she participated in one of our biggest concerts alongside a very famous greek orchestra. And then she decided that singing was not enough for her. She also wanted to learn how to play the violin, just like her brother. It was in the middle of the academic year and the available spaces were very few, just like the available musical instruments. In May we managed to enroll her in the viola beginners class. It was not a violin, but ‘’Noone knows what a viola is’’, she said. ‘’I want to start viola’’. And so she did! Today, only seven months since that day, with her hard work and determination she has even become a member of the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra!

This is a unique story but not the only one. We are very happy to witness children and young people blooming day by day and we are grateful to have you with us in this!

Best regards,

Friends of El Sistema Greece team

P.S.: We share a few photos with you from our everyday life!
