Our true stories #7

By Fenia Biniari | Communications Manager

Dear GlobalGivers,

At El Sistema Greece we use music as a medium to achieve long term social change for both the children involved, and their families. Our main priority and goal is to inspire children through music and provide them with a safe space for dialogue, understanding and creativity, and your aid is vital to our success. Children deserve to have everything they need to build their own personalities and future, and our very own way to support them is to provide them free high quality music education in group classes that encourage them to build a sense of belonging.

Today we want to share with you the story of our 12-year old super talented Helma. Helma is from Iran but has been living in Greece with her family for the last one year and she joined our choir class in September 2021. She really enjoys her music studies at El Sistema Greece and she never misses her classes while usually comes earlier waiting with great anticipation for the lesson to start. This Christmas, Helma had her first musical performance with El Sistema Greece as she participated in our big concert in which more than 100 young musicians of El Sistema Greece joined their forces for the first time. A few days ago, Helma spoke to us about her experience in this live concert which she enjoyed a lot because she felt like a movie star, as she said, and about her dreams of becoming a famous singer one day. Apart from that she has also made new friends and has built a small community within the community of El Sistema Greece.

This is a very special story, but it isn't the only one. The greatest reward for us is to see the children blossoming and opening their wings to build a better future. This is what makes us try even harder everyday and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!

With great appreciation,

Friends of El Sistema Greece!
