1155 Fast-Tracking Education for Afghan Women and Girls

As the year draws to a close we reflect on what we have done and how this has changed lives for the better. AIL’s Learning Centers (LCs) give women the opportunity to learn, to network with other women and to gain both knowledge and capacity. So far in 2017, 23,054 students (15,474 female) have attended 6 month courses at 43 LCs mainly in Herat and Kabul locations but also in other provinces.

Stories are the best way for us to show how you help poor Afghans improve their lives and communities. Here is one of our favorites from the Leadership Workshops:We moved to a city in Dykondi Province and I worked for the government for less pay than before. My husband was a workman but did not have full time work so paying rent was hard for us.  I went to an AIL Leadership Workshop and learned about how to be a leader, advocate for myself and the importance of trust in society. This helped me have the courage to try and borrow some money to buy land so we could build a house of our own. My husband was skeptical and said, “Who will loan us money.” I talked with him and convinced him that the way to do this was to borrow from someone who trusts us. We found someone who was very kind and trusted us and gave us time to repay the loan.  Now we have our own piece of land and a house that we built and after three years I repaid all the money.”

Thank you for your continued support.  Please read the 2017 Newsletter from CHI featuring AIL.
