The situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reached a critical point. Fighting has intensified dramatically in recent weeks as the anti-government armed group March 23 Movement (M23) has advanced further into the country, culminating in the recent fall of Bukavu, a city of 1.3 million people.

 As M23 militants push further into the region, civilians are caught in the crossfire. Reports of attacks, looting, sexual violence, forced recruitment of child soldiers, and other atrocities are increasing. Thousands of people have already fled their homes, seeking safety as internally displaced persons (IDPs) or refugees in neighboring countries. This escalating violence has created a desperate humanitarian crisis, with thousands in urgent need of food, shelter, and medical care.
