   “Un niño que no se alimenta bien, no puede estar saludable, y, por ende, no rinde adecuadamente en la escuela”. Madre María Luisa Casar

   En la Fundación Madre María Luisa Casar entendemos que salud, alimentación y educación van de la mano para lograr la formación integral de nuestros niños. Por esta razón estos aspectos  se abordan de diferentes maneras. En el caso del comedor escolar, brindando una alimentación balanceada dirigida por médicos nutricionistas, charlas educativas y el uso, por parte de nuestros especialistas, de herramientas de diagnóstico y evaluación como las mediciones antropométricas. Estas últimas consisten en la toma de las medidas corporales de los niños para un posterior análisis del estado nutricional y control.  

   Estas mediciones se realizan dos o tres veces durante el año escolar y en cada una de las mediciones se elabora un informe que muestra la situación nutricional de los niños, Lo que nos permite hacer seguimiento para corregir o implementar nuevas estrategias.

   Por ejemplo en la medición final del año escolar 2018/2019 realizada en junio, los resultados obtenidos fueron satisfactorios, A pesar de la crisis alimentaria que viven muchas de las familias venezolanas, la U.E Jenaro Aguirre logró mantener a la mayoría de los niños en condiciones saludables:

• Hubo una mejoría del 25% en cuanto a la cantidad de niños que recuperaron su peso con respecto a la medición anterior. Un 30% que se encontraba en riesgo de delgadez, mejoraron. En cuanto a la desnutrición aguda se registró un alza en sus indicadores, lo que nos permitió tomar medidas extraordinarias con los niños afectados y frenar la evolución de este factor.

• En cuanto a la mejoría de los indicadores de la Desnutrición Crónica se puede afirmar que los estudiantes del Jenaro están creciendo de manera sostenida. La malnutrición por exceso no presentó ningún cambio significativo.

• Adicionalmente los informes muestran que los estudiantes de educación inicial tienen mejores indicadores nutricionales que los de grados superiores. Posiblemente las familias colocan toda su atención en atender la alimentación de los más pequeños y abandonan de cierta manera la nutrición de los niños mayores. Este patrón se repite con la valoración del dato antropométrico a nivel nacional.

   A pesar de las adversidades, estos resultados nos demuestran el impacto positivo en la comunidad de la U.E Jenaro Aguirre y la importancia de continuar con el trabajo, el cual ha sido posible gracias al apoyo de todos ustedes.

    “A child that is not well nourished, cannot be healthy, and therefore, cannot perform well academically” Madre María Luisa Casar

  At the Madre María Luisa Casar Foundationwe understand that health, nutrition and education go hand in hand to achieve the comprehensive education of our children. This is why these issues are addressed in different ways. In the case of the school lunch room, by offering balanced meals created by nutritionists, educational lectures about nutrition and the use of diagnostic and assessment tools such as taking anthropometric measurements. The latter consist in taking the child’s body measurements for subsequent analysis for the state of nutrition and control.

   These measurements are performed two or three times during the school year and each measurement isfollowed by a report that shows the child’s nutritional situation, allowing follow-up to correct or implement new strategies.

   For example, in the measurement of the end of the 2018/2019 school year performed in June, the achieved results were positive. Despite of the food crisis suffered by many Venezuelan families, the Jenaro Aguirre School managed to maintain the majority of the children in healthy conditions.

• There was a 25% recovery in respect of the amount of children that regained their weight from the previous measurement. A 30% at risk of being underweight, were able to recover. We observed rise in the indicators of acute malnutrition, which allowed us to take extraordinary measures with the affected children and halt the progress of this factor.

• Regarding improvement of the Cronic Malnutrition indicators, we can affirm that the students of Jenaro are growing in a sustained manner. There were no significant changes in the excessive malnutrition.

• Additionally, the reports show that the early education students have better nutritional indicators than the older grades. It is possible that families focus their attention towards tending to the nutrition of the youngest children, and neglect the nutrition of the older ones, in a way. This pattern is repeated in antroprometric measurements across the country.

   Despite of the adversities, these results show the Jenaro Aguirre School’s positive impact in the community and how important it is to continue with the work, which is possible thanks to your support.

El pasado jueves 18 de julio de 2019 celebramos con mucho orgullo la graduación de la promoción XIX de la Escuela Jenaro Aguirre Elorriaga, compuesta por 33 estudiantes (42% mujeres y 58% hombres, entre los 11 y 14 años) quienes culminaron la etapa de educación básica con una celebración muy sentida donde recibieron un merecido diploma y una medalla de parte de las autoridades de la escuela y la directiva de la Fundación Madre María Luisa Casar. Ambas condecoraciones son un símbolo de gran trascendencia en su futuro como venezolanos.

Queremos compartir con nuestra gran familia de colaboradores y voluntarios, datos resaltantes sobre esta promoción, y que nos muestran la influencia de nuestra formación en sus vidas, en la comunidad del Barrio 24 de Marzo y en la sociedad venezolana:

• La mayoría de los estudiantes se formó desde 1er nivel y por ello fueron condecorados con un Diploma Junior, el resto de fue incorporando progresivamente desde 3er nivel y hasta 5to grado.

• Las actividades extracurriculares preferidas fueron coro y teatro y parte de ellos se beneficiaron con más de una actividad, pintura, danza y música, asegurando su integralidad.

• En el área de nutrición y salud, el 36% de los egresados presentó problemas nutricionales durante su trayectoria en la escuela, los cuales fueron atendidos con tratamientos específicos. A la fecha actual, el 24% se logró recuperar satisfactoriamente y un 12% restante continua en tratamiento.

• Estimamos que, el grupo completo recibió 45.750 almuerzos en la escuela y fueron atendidos en el dispensario médico unas 859 veces, durante la permanencia en el Jenaro.

Ellos y nosotros, estamos más que agradecidos con cada uno de nuestros benefactores porque su aporte y su cariño han sido indispensables para celebrar este día conscientes y preparados para una etapa más exigente.

La buena noticia es que gracias a la gestión de la Fundación Madre Ma. Luisa Casar, el 100% de los estudiantes continuará su bachillerato, con la fiel intención de ser profesionales y agentes de cambio social. Sueñan y tienen la firme convicción de que serán médicos, ingenieros, abogados, deportistas profesionales, fotógrafos, veterinarios y maestros venezolanos

Enseñanza, hogar, respeto, tolerancia, compañerismo, responsabilidad, valores, trabajo en equipo, fueron algunas de las palabras que emplearon para describir lo que significa para ellos el Jenaro Aguirre Elorriaga. Su alma mater.

Last Thursday, July 18th 2019, we proudly celebrated the graduation of the XIX Promotion of the Jenaro Aguirre Elorriaga School, comprised of 33 students (42% girls and 58% boys, between 11 and 14 years of age). The students ended this final stage of basic education with an emotional ceremony, where they received their well deserved diploma and medal from the School authorities and the Board of Directors of Fundación Madre Maria Luisa Casar. Both of these awards are symbols of great importance in regards to their future as Venezuelan citizens.

We would like to share with our great family of supporters and volunteers these remarkable facts about this promotion, which are proof of the influence our education has had on their lives, on the community of Barrio 24 de Marzo as well as the Venezuelan society:

• Most of the students joined the school from the 1st level and for that they were awarded the Junior Diploma. The rest of the students progressively joined from 3rd level and up to 5th Grade.

• The students’ favorite extracurricular activities are choir and theater and most of them participate in more than one activity, such as painting, dance and music, thus ensuring a comprehensive experience.

• Regarding health and nutrition, 36% of the graduating class presented nutrition problems during their time at the school, which were duly addressed with specialized treatment. At the current date, 24% of the students were able to recover successfully and the remaining 12% continue in treatment.

• As per our estimates, the class was served 45.570 meals at the school and had 859 doctor’s appointments, during their time at Jenaro.

We and the students are more than thankful to each and every one of our benefactors, because their care and support were essential in order for the students to celebrate this milestone, aware and prepared for a more challenging stage in their lives.

The good news is that thanks to the efforts of the Madre Maria Luisa Casar Foundation, 100% of the students will continue on to High School, with the true desire of becoming professionals and agents of social change. They dream and have the firm conviction that they will become doctors, engineers, lawyers, professional athletes, veterinarians, photographers and teachers in Venezuela.

When asked to describe what Jenaro Aguirre Elorriaga, their alma mater means to them, the students used the following words: Education, home, respect, tolerance, companionship, responsibility, values and teamwork.
