As part of our ongoing effort to Advance Education through Technology, VHF launched its After School STEM Robotics Coding program in November, 2019. The primary focus of the program is to equip students in the Inner-City schools of DC-Metropolitan area with fundamental skills in coding for a successful transition into the workforce or an advanced degree program of their choice. To optimize the program, we joined forces with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Washington, DC chapter to work with Bridges Public Charter School. VHF’s After School Program at Bridges Public Charter School in North East Washington, DC was planned to commence in the Fall of 2020, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, it didn’t start. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, we have not been able to run our After School STEM Robotics Coding program. We’re optimistic and anticipate that VHF’s After School program at Bridges Public Charter School will start sometime in the Fall of 2022. As science put it, Pandemics do not die, they fade away. And that is what Covid-19 is likely to do in 2022. There is a light of hope as experts predicts that life could be back to normal towards the end of 2022.
As an alternative, VHF decided to hold a virtual coding session with kids across the DMV area on Saturday December 11, 2021! Please stay tuned for more information.
This report cannot be complete without recognizing our generous donors. We are thrilled to have your support. Through your donation we have been able to add 3 more Lego Mindstorm EV3 Robotic Kits to our inventory, and also have access to training resources for Scratch programming. VHF will be using the Scratch coding platform in our upcoming virtual coding session. Using Scratch programming, the kids will learn how to create their personal Scratch account, create stories, games and animations.
