Paths to Healing: Transforming Lives of 100 Women Affected by Violence in Nepal
Violence against women remains a pervasive challenge in Nepal, with nearly half of all women experiencing some form of violence in their lifetimes, often resulting in severe psychological trauma and social exclusion. KOSHISH, a national mental health self-help organization, addresses this crisis through its Emergency Care Service Center, providing holistic support to women survivors of violence and those with mental health and psychosocial issues. This report documents the impact of KOSHISH’s interventions on 100 women, charting their journey from crisis to recovery and reintegration.
KOSHISH's model provides a safe haven for women and girls, offering emergency mental health and psychosocial support, therapeutic services, medical and legal assistance, basic necessities, family tracing, and advocacy. The center's work has led to significant outcomes for 100 women. Each received shelter, food, clothing, and medical care, with counseling and therapeutic activities fostering self-esteem and coping skills. Through tailored interventions, women recovered from trauma and gained autonomy, learning life skills, receiving vocational training, and obtaining legal support. KOSHISH facilitated reintegration into families and communities, coordinating with local authorities and family members. The organization's advocacy has also reduced stigma and improved mental health service access.
Key achievements include supporting 100 women with shelter, counseling, and medical/legal assistance, with successful reintegration for most beneficiaries. Community awareness events were conducted, and policy advocacy contributed to mental health initiatives. Challenges persist, including stigma, resource limitations, and the need for systemic change. Despite these challenges, KOSHISH’s Emergency Care Service Center has provided a pathway to healing for 100 women affected by violence in Nepal. Through holistic care, advocacy, and reintegration, the project has transformed lives and contributed to broader changes in community attitudes and policies. Continued support is vital to sustaining these life-changing services.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to GlobalGiving for their continuous support, which has been instrumental in enabling us to provide these essential services.
