Summer 2022 Report

By Meira Weinstein | Partnerships Coordinator

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing support and are pleased to share our summer progress report.

Her Academy's spring semester ended with over 70% of students taking part in graduation ceremonies. We are extremely proud of our nine graduates who recently integrated into work, of our graduates who managed to maintain their employment throughout the year, and of our four graduates who received a pay increase.

Student Highlight: Merav Levi

Merav Levi began her studies at Her Academy four year ago when she joined a photography course. Merav fell in love with taking photos and we fell in love with her strong and uncompromising shots. Merav's photos are currently being presented at the Photo is:real exhibit, and her work was highlighted in Ha'artez's magazine blog "Exposure". The article in Hebrew can be found here.

Her Academy Hosts: Conference on Employment for Women Without Status

Eight months ago we lost Zehava. She came to us when she was 20, a transgender Palestinian with no status, and no real possibility of making a living. The existing infrastructure and procedures could not contain Zehava's complex identity and feeling completely lost and hopeless, Zahava took her own life. Like Zehava, there are many other status-less women whose lives are at stake with the current status-quo.

Maytal Stroll, Her Academy's Director of Employment Services, organized the first ever conference on the subject of employment for women without status coming out of prostitution. The conference, which took place on June 12, brought together many of our partner organizations working in the field, such as Assaf - the Aid Organization for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Israel, Worker's Hotline, the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants, the Aguda - Israel's LGBT Taskforce, and Ma'agan - the Shelter for Victims of Human Trafficking. We shared ideas and possible solutions for various populations and carried out sessions to increase knowledge and expand our tools in providing much needed services.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Neta Arnon Shushan will be joining us as our new Director of Pedagogy and we are well underway in planning our fall semester which will begin in October with over 20 courses.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.

Please consider making a donation by clicking here to help us continue to support women in Israel who are escaping prostitution in search of personal and economic freedom.

Best wishes for an enjoyable rest of the summer,

From all of the staff, volunteers and students at Her Academy
