The WAFA board and team sincerely thank our “silent hero” donors. Your contributions have been often doubled or tripled through generous matching!
This support has directly benefited the 2018 Award winners. They have received both international recognition and critical funding to expand their work among communities with similar challenges. For example, in Nicaragua, funding will lower the cost of solar ovens; in South Africa, it will help school kids expand their community sustainability project with recycling, eco-brick gardens, etc. WAFA also thanks the GlobalGiving platform for promoting these low-tech, high-impact breakthroughs around the world!
In 2020, we are aiming to raise $15,000 to support the brand new Youth Climate Award (YCA). This unique award recognizes young sustainability heroes under 25. It targets two groups: youth under 19 and youth 20-25.
Groundbreaking community work by a South African primary school inspired WAFA to launch this award category. When WAFA Ambassador, Princess Zama Zulu, visited the school to present the award, she saw the need to create a special award to recognize young people’s achievements. This award will honour young people working to raise community awareness of the climate change challenge and to mitigate its impact. It will target small-scale, sustainable projects suitable for global replication with international investment partners.
WAFA Volunteers Jennifer Edwards and Stuart Hoffman, have even created a climate change anthem "One Lit Candle" to highlight young people’s contributions to this historic challenge.
