MERCY BEYOND BORDERS is discontinuing its presence on the GlobalGiving platform.  We liked the platform and its goals; but we simply cannot stay with GlobalGiving because their processing fees are so high, which essentially reduces by 8%-15% the amount the donor is giving to support the project.  Most other platforms charge 3%-5%.

We THANK all who have recognized the significance of Mercy Beyond Borders' work with women and girls in 5 countries of extreme poverty.  We hope you will check out our website now and then to keep abreast of the lives whom your past generosity has transformed:  mercybeyondborders.org.

To date, this project supported 120 women refugees from South Sudan, currently living in refugee camps along the Uganda border, to learn basic business skills and start their own businesses.  This project continues, but not via GlobalGiving platform.

The refugee woman shown in the photo #1 used her $200 loan from Mercy Beyond Borders to open a small restaurant in the refugee camp. She is now a proud, hard-working entrepreneur. Here you see her preparing greens for the evening menu.  Income from this micro-enterprise business supplements the meagre rations provided by the UN, which has slashed the level of rations these past 2 yrs due to insufficient funds.

Photo #2 shows the "al fresco" bakery started by a refugee woman after her basic business training from Mercy Beyond Borders. She used her $200 loan to purchase pans and flour and salt and charcoal.  Before dawn she mixes the dough and bakes the mandazi biscuits. She will then plut the metal baking sheet on her head and walk throughout the refugee camps, selling her goods hot and fresh.  I've bought them.  Delicious!
