Project: Young Antiracist Leadership Project (YALP)
During the accelerator, we achieved both of our goals: we raised $5,000.00 USD and had more than 40 donors. We were also very lucky to have several recurring donors which are still contributing to our cause. Thanks to the many contributions we have had, we raised our goal three times since we joined GlobalGiving. Our initial goal of 6,000 USD was raised to $9,000 USD thanks to the immense support we had. We received many donations with messages expressing support to our cause. Many of our donors continue to give money as of today because they too want to see a second generation of YALP students. Our mission has always been to support young antiracist leaders and their projects, so the fact that we, as of today, have raised beyond our initial goal and are standing at a little over $8,000.00 USD, this money will allow us to support more underprivileged students and increase the diversity and expertise of our staff.
Since we raised the funds through GlobalGiving, we have also made significant advances in our project. We secured sponsorships from Scotiabank Mexico, The Embassy of Canada in Mexico, and the University of Toronto through the Centre for Integrative Anti-racism Studies (CIARS’s) which will allow us to bring high value content to our students.
In addition, we have already selected the young people who will be part of YALP, the teachers, the kits, and the payment of their scholarship.

The intensive training classes began on November 22 and will end on December 3, later on we will follow up with a mentoring program for each of the students to develop their anti-racist ideas into projects that they can implement in their communities.
The mentorships will be personalized to the students for 6 months to help them create, develop and write their anti-racist projects, create strategies together to find ways to implement them in the medium term. The students will meet with the tutors at least once a month, to advise and answer any questions that the "yalpers" may have. In addition to creating a network of anti-racists who will be able to meet periodically to learn about each other's projects, create synergies and work together.
