We hope you're faring well and that 2021 is much better than last year!
The WWFA Malawi Team has not missed a beat. They've been very busy identifying new sites -- villages that need water... and we learned of another huge need.
During the pandemic, we got a report from the Malawian media that over 600 primary schools in Malawi had re-opened without potable water!
In addition to the need for water access for handwashing, these 600 schools have a challenge to find clean drinking water. Some schools have even encouraged students to bring water from their homes, despite the fact that some sources of water in remote areas of Malawi are not safe. Without intervention, these schools could easily become infectious hubs for the transmission of COVID-19.
When we heard of this, we knew right away that we needed to do something about it!
So, we used your funds to help drill a well at the school pictured in this email - it's called Kasengwa School and it's for students in 1st to 8th grade. Headmaster Juwaeli wants to make sure you know how grateful they are! Not only will children (and teachers) be able to wash their hands, they will have fresh and healthy water to drink.
On top of that, people who live near the school are invited to come here to fill their buckets! How cool is that?!
In the photo you can see one of the boy's smile as he and his friend are allowed to pump out some water! We doubt any of those young folks will complain about having to wash their hands.
We thank you greatly for your kind heart and sharing of your precious resources!
As we write, more schools are being selected to received wells, so we'd be honored and joyful to have your continued partnership in this meaningful work.
With buckets full of appreciation, :-)
Your WWFA USA Team
