Pictured here is Josephine Kanjo. She’s the headmaster of St. Luis Primary School in Blantyre, Malawi. The school has 385 students.
She’s very excited that on September 14th the school received a WWFA water well! She asked us to pass along her thanks to all the WWFA donors who care about helping people in Africa! This clean, healthy water source has already improved the quality of education and sanitation, and there are exciting developments on the horizon.
Education: Students will no longer report late to school due to spending time in search of water. Drinking clean water, they’ll be healthier – no more diarrhea or cholera which also causes them to miss school. They’ll be well-fed because the school porridge will have no bacteria in it, and it will be made on time because the water is now nearby and it will be easy to fill big pots full for cooking (also good for the ladies who cook). Another benefit: The children's attention spans will improve with good food in their tummies!
Sanitation: Positive progress was immediately made on several hygiene and cleanliness issues. Now, toilets are cleaned properly, hand-washing is happening often as it should, and classrooms are cleaned regularly.
Development: In addition to all that good news, there are some improvements in the works for St. Luis Primary School! For a long time, they had hoped to build teachers’ houses on the property, but water provision had been a challenge. Now with the availability of water, bricks for houses can easily be made allowing for dwellings to be built, and the water well will provide necessary water for cooking, bathing, and other household needs. This will motivate teachers to stay on the school grounds which allows them more time to prepare for class and to start classes on time thereby improving education in general.
See how easily YOU HAVE IMPROVED LIVES – IN MANY WAYS – FOR THE BETTER!
We are so very happy to partner with you to do great things for people in need.
Thank you for the precious gift of water. We look forward to doing more good with you.
For those who wait,
Kurt

P.S. Since this well was installed less than a week ago, we don’t have many photos yet but we’re sharing what we have. We wish we had a photo of the students, but the only one we got of the kids is a cute picture of them checking out the drilling rig after the sun had gone down! You can't blame them for being curious and excited!
