How much good news can you take?!
A lot?
Good!
Because I have so much to share with you.
In a moment I’ll tell you about the lady in the photograph – Evelyn.
The first bit of good news: Including her village – already this year – we’ve installed 20 water wells in Malawi, Africa!
The numbers by district:
Also, our team has drilled 20 more boreholes in preparation for the installation of the pump equipment. These will all be completed by the end of the month.
A "good news" story I want to share with you comes from Lilamba village in the Mangochi district.
Lilamba has 50 households that represent approximately 250 people.
Before they met Water Wells for Africa (WWFA), their closest clean water source was 2.25 miles away! Because that’s such a long distance to walk and carry full, heavy buckets of water back home, they’ve been using a shallow ditch in the sand of a dried-up river that’s closer.
Below you’ll see photos showing 48-year-old Evelyn at the river. While the water looks fairly clear – better than what we’ve seen many African villages use – the whole situation is fraught wtih problems. The water source doesn’t yield much which forces women to wait for it to produce more water; the water is difficult to collect here -- the ladies use shallow pans to scoop small amounts of water to fill their big buckets; and wild animals can infect the water.
All that is in the past for Evelyn and her community now!
They now have a water well that will change their lives for decades to come. Thank you for making this dream come true for the people of Lilamba. They also received training in Homemade Hygiene practices and water well maintenance so they’ll be much healthier, and they’ll have a chance to improve their infrastructure development.
Evelyn and all the people are so overwhelmed with the gift of clean water that you and WWFA have given them.
Thank you for being part of this happy story. We look forward to doing more life-changing work with you!
For those who wait,
