Can you hear them?

By Hayley Roffey | Project Lead

First stop....London!
First stop....London!

Do you hear them? From Parkland, FL, to Bangladesh, youth are speaking out. Challenged by poverty, violence, or lack of access to education and training, they’re courageously standing up for a more just and safe world.

We are listening, and we stand with them. Thanks to donors like you, we can stand with them more often, within their own communities and bring people who need to listen directly to them.

As part of GFC’s Voice of Youth campaign, we have kicked off our global Listening Tour, a series of youth-led events in multiple cities about social, civic, and policy decisions affecting our young people.  These events are creating open and safe spaces for us to ask young people how we can engage them more in our work, what they would like to see on our youth council and what they want to say.

Our first stop in the U.K. was a stark, honest conversation with London’s youth reminded us all how important it is to bring them to the table on decisions, policies, and programs that impact their lives.

The youth attendees shared not only their needs and fears, but their unwavering desire to drive change in their communities.

Amy, 17 told us: “Young people are getting angry - there is unrest on the streets – we do not want to feel unsafe anymore. There is going to be a big change coming, and it is going to be my generation and that makes me excited and hopeful.”

We need more voices echoing the #voiceofyouth. We need you! Let others know you’re committed to youth voice and rights, and to getting children and young people the tools they need to live lives of dignity and independence.

Make sure to tell us why listening to youth is important—we’ll keep you updated as we take our tour to new places.
