The recent war has left a profound impact on the rights of Syrian children.Certainly, it can be said that the flames of war devastated their rights, and left them exposed to all kinds of violence, torture and abuse in its various forms.11 years of war in Syria resulted in a significant deterioration of the humanitarian and economic situation in the country, forcing many children to enter the job market, either to provide for their families or for themselves, which has had negative effects on the child.
According to United Nations reports, around 250 million children around theworld between the ages of (10-18) years are working. About 150 million children work in hazardous environments, and about a million of these children are exposed to human trafficking, and the largest proportion ofthese children live in areas undergoing armed conflicts or unrest.
The percentageof Syrian children working is estimated at 20% of the total percentage of workers.Compared to 10% before the conflict in Syria, which means that the number of children who entered the jobmarket has doubled in the light of the brutal war.
In recent weeks Pro Terra Sancta has carried out a new set of activities to adress the child labour issue in Aleppo within the "Name and Future" project.
The program includes the main aspects that the child needs in order to gain healthy psychological, physical and social development that they lost as a result of their hard and tiring work. It includes allocating educational sessions for children because most of them dropped out of schools and do not have any knowledge of the basics(including reading, writing, mathematics, etc.).
Emphasis is placed on providing the child with some necessary social experiences and skills (the concept of acceptance, citizenship, social roles, goal planning, money and extravagance, etc.). Training is carried out on self-concept and self-confidence,stress management, resilience, psychological relief, etc.Furthermore training is provided on physical and sexual protection, forms of exploitation, diseases, right and wrong behaviors, violence, children's rights, etc.
The activities where carried out thanks to the private and institutional contributions received in the past months. Since the first phase of the program was very successful Pro Terra Sancta intends to expand activities and reach even more children in the next months.
