Bite by Bite: Transform Communities with Nutrition

We are delighted to present this project report highlighting the endeavors and achievements of WAFA in advancing our mission of identifying and promoting outstanding sustainability initiatives in the areas of water, air, and food worldwide. We want to showcase our progress during the last 3 months:

Kicking off Next Award Cycle. WAFA has launched the final preparations for the next award cycle. The team is set-up and all supporting functions are staffed. The award cycle will officially be announced with the call-for-application next month to invite projects and initiatives to take part in the selection process. The award cycle will end with the award ceremony tentatively scheduled for June 2025. We are very excited in hearing from all the “Silent Heroes” and to learn about their solutions to address local challenges within Water, Air and Food. Furthermore, since a few years back, WAFA has included a fourth category: Youth Climate. The focus with Youth Climate is to specifically celebrate projects driven by the younger generation.

Creating Impact Report. WAFA has been reaching out to all previous finalists from the 2023 award cycle. 75% of which have responded and shared their experience since being nominated. The feedback will now be consolidated to create an Impact Report which will provide useful information to assess the effect of the WAFA awards.

In an effort to continue our engagement with previous winners and finalists a dedicated function has been established at WAFA. The purpose of this function is to increase the understanding of how impact is created through WAFA and what can be done to even expand this impact. The intention is to implement this role with a long-term perspective, since WAFA keeps learning from every single project.

Expanding Capabilities. The growth of WAFA’s competence is ongoing. Extremely talented and motivated new volunteers have joined WAFA recently. Our volunteers are at the heart of our activities, without volunteers it wouldn’t be possible to accomplish what we are set out to do. Hence, we are very happy and extremely grateful for all the support we provided by such talented individuals.

Identifying and Empowering Silent Heroes

A core focus of our mission is to identify and assist the "SILENT HEROES" who create ingenious, low-tech solutions to ensure access to clean water, clean air, and nutritious food. These heroes are crucial in providing sustainable solutions to marginalized communities, enhancing their overall well-being and self-sufficiency.

Enhancing Community Impact

Our initiatives have sparked increased participation from community members in adopting sustainable agricultural practices. This collective effort has resulted in noticeable improvements in the nutritional status of both children and adults within the communities we serve, demonstrating the positive impact of our project in fostering healthier and more resilient communities.

Looking Ahead

Moving forward, we are dedicated to continuing our support for these local innovators and extending our reach to additional communities in need. Our future plans include providing further training and resources to enhance the impact of these local heroes. We also plan to host community workshops to share best practices in sustainable nutrition and agriculture, fostering a culture of collaborative learning and adoption of sustainable methods. Additionally, we will continue to identify and promote outstanding projects through the WAFA Awards, increasing their visibility and effectiveness. These steps are crucial in ensuring that our initiatives have a lasting and significant impact on global health and well-being.
