Our Nepal Country Director Suresh Chhetry has been extremely hard at work leading Healing Advocacy Workshops for teachers around the country. In the past 3 weeks he has facilitated mental health workshops for over 180 educators, creating the first ever "Trauma-Informed Municipality" in Nepal. This means that every school within the district has been trained through Healing Advocacy Workshops.
In a country that has the 7th highest suicide rate in the world, and where suicide is the leading cause of death among women and girls ages 15-49, learning about mental health, emotional first aid, and how to disrupt cycles of trauma and violence will positively impact the students and the entire community and help break the stigma around mental health.
In addition, Suresh conducted 4 days of training in the rural areas surrounding Kathmandu, reaching 79 participants, the majority of whom were women. These trainings were conducted in partnership with a local organization that provides micro-savings and self-help groups to over 40,000 women across Nepal.
Thanks to your contributions, trauma-informed mental health support is accessible to communities that are deeply impacted by violence and inequity. Your support is making a difference for generations to come.
