It took 2 years and a village to support our partner Raksha Nepal - an organization that rescues and rehabilitates survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking - with mental health and healing training for their team of 30 staff and caregivers, including women who have graduated from their programs and are now serving as leaders for other survivors like them.
"This type of training they [are] getting for the first time in their lives," said Raksha founder, Menuka Thapa. "The workshop was so effective. We need more trainings like this... more, more, more!"
Not only are there few mental health practitioners in Nepal, but those who are affordable often take a medication-only approach to treating symptoms, never addressing the underlying trauma or establishing the trusted relationships needed for healing.
With their newfound knowledge and skills, the staff at Raksha - regardless of their role or educational background - can now serve as Healing Advocates for the thousands of survivors across Nepal that they are supporting to rehabilitate and heal.
Stay tuned for more updates from our team in Nepal. And in the meantime, we send our deepest gratitude to you.
From our hearts to yours,
Gratitude Alliance
