One of the changes this year at CETAP Lucy is the inclusion of children with special learning needs in our programs. Specifically, five students are now tutored to cater to their specific needs. All of them are autistic and one of them also has Cerebral Palsy. Another one combines autism with Hydrocephalus. Their unique learning needs are being met through them working individually with a specially trained teacher. However, they also share experiences in and with the larger group of children.
The afternoon program for the older children now helps prepare them for their entry test for the Tecnico Salesiano school, which is a desirable high school of high quality. This includes support in English, mathematics, and psychological orientation.
Overall, we are individualizing the student support as much as possible.
A new initiative is the piloting of a Big Sister-Brother mentoring program for selected students who are motivated and good learners. We are pairing the children with someone from the local community to go on outtings, share lessons, and build relationships. The objective is for them to finish their education so that they can work in a profession. Embedded in this is an emphasis on preventing casual pregnancy.
Finally, CETAP Lucy is proud to share that on November 10 it will celebrate its tenth anniversary. Thank you so much to our supporters and child sponsors who have led us to this point! We could not do it without your help.
