Dear Supporters,
We are thrilled to share our progress with you today. Thanks to your generous support we have completed the installation of the solar water pump and tank and all 1,200 school children have access to safe drinking water! The Entebbe UMEA Primary School re-opened to students in January 2022. We hired local laborers, creating short-term job opportunities in Kitubulu! Students and teachers alike are grateful for the new water system. Having access to clean water helps ensure that students stay healthy and can focus on their studies.
When we started this project, we knew that the water tank was just the beginning of improving water and hygiene for all students at the school. We conducted an assessment of the existing washrooms and found them unsanitary and unsafe. The latrines have broken pipes and walls. Additionally, because there is no connected water system, girl students must transport water, which creates shame and stigma. Studies show that access to proper bathroom facilities is a supportive factor that helps girls remain in school longer. In the coming months we will build new bathrooms for all students and ensure they are handicap accessible. If you want to support the next stage of the project, please donate here.
As always, thank you for your generous and continued support.
In solidarity,
Tender Grassroots
