Project Report | Feb 3, 2022
Innovation and clean technologies for sustainable rural development

By Raquel Cueto | Alliances and Communications director

Sabana Yegua Viejo is a community in the Azua province, located 71 km from the center of the province, which had a lack of water, electricity, health, education and a high level of deterioration in the homes in the community.

Nature Power Foundation develops Nature Village, the first sustainable community in the Dominican Republic, which provides access to basic services through alternative solutions that protect the environment.

This project includes: access to energy through the first rural solar plant in our country, access to drinking water and sanitation, sustainable entrepreneurship with the start-up of a fish farm system led by women and young people, remote measurement system with information available in an open data platform and eco-friendly housing construction.

Due to the health crisis we are facing due to COVID-19 and the active hurricane season, housing is one of the greatest defenses against the virus and hurricanes.

Thank you for making posible to Sabana Yegua Viejo´s Families to have Good living conditions for the first time.

On behalf of our team, THANK YOU for your solidarity and support through the GlobalGiving fundraising platform. Thanks to your generosity Sabana Yegua Viejo inhabitants are having Access for the first time to clean wáter and energy, a bathroom and better living conditions. These eco-innovative homes are built with recycled plastic through the partnership with Habitat‘s local affiliate in the Dominican Republic.

Thanks to 82 donors we reached US$6,552.86 and with international cooperation and many partners in de DR we´ve reached the total amount to raise up Maria´s house. We are still active in GlobalGiving´s portal receiving funds to complete the US$8,500 campaing for other families houses.
