Educational Youth Program Update August 2023

By Ignacio Munoz-Sanjuan | President & Founder, Factor-H

Factor-H continues to provide educational assistance to youth at risk for Huntington's disease in Zulia State, Venezuela, as part of our umbrella Youth program. In addition to providing school supplies and nutritional assistance for the more than 350 kids enrolled in our prorgam, all at-risk fro Huntington's disease, we organize a set of educational workshops for teenagers, including sewing, drawing, and electrician skills. We have conducted 8 such workshops in the last 3 months, and more than 40 kids have participated.

We also conduct psychological support systems for teenagers (small group sessions) and individual coaching sessions with our psychologists on staff to ensure kids stay in school and are adequately supported.  More than 80 kids and their parents or legal guardians have benefited from these sessions.

Most of the kids in the program live in conditions of extreme poverty. Given the fact that more than 80% of the kids live with an affected individual at home, one of their parents or grandparents, and the kids suffer from lack of support at home dure to the disease afflicting the household. Factor-H realized in 2022 that in order to improve the chances that the kids stay in school, psychological support was neede.

Thank you for your support
