Spring 2021 Update

By Bianca Moura | Executive Director

As millions receive vaccinations and start to return to workplaces, schools, and public gatherings, the situation in Latin America continues to worsen due to the devastating consequences of the coronavirus. Additionally, the socio-economic and political instability in Colombia and Venezuela signifies that most of our communities who live in vulnerable conditions are experiencing increased challenges due to lockdowns, protests, and lack of electricity.

Yet, in the midst of these complexities, we are happy to share with you that with the support of our very dedicated local partners, the educational intervention project in Barranquitas, Venezuela is thriving. At the Abrazos escuelita, the at-risk for HD vulnerable children have been receiving education and nutritious meals every day since classes resumed. Additionally, as soon as COVID-related restrictions are lifted, we will be able to continue with the development of our learning center project in alliance with the city of Algarrobo in Colombia.

We look forward to keeping you posted on the progress we're making and most importantly, helping these young students have a shot in life.
