Some highlights for you.....
Juan is a 11 year old boy from the Dominican Republic. His favourite subject is science and he wants to become an engineer!
Juan wanted you to know "...the electricity doesn’t work all the time in our home. We've never had a torch before but now when the power goes out, we are lucky, we don’t need to rely on candles anymore. I use my SolarBuddy to study at night so my family can save money on electricity."
"We used to spend $1300 Peso per week now we spend $1000 Peso. Thank you for giving me this gift.”
A 23% reduction on electricity spend, means there's more money available for food, healthcare and education.
Sally is an 8 year old girl from Vanuatu, and like many 8 year olds, she is not sure exactly what she wants to do when she is older but does know that she wants to help others, like a nurse or a teacher does.
Sally shares "..at home we used to use a torch for light and sometimes we couldn’t afford new batteries so we would light candles in our house."
"My two brothers and I would struggle to do our homework after chores because it was too dark and we couldn’t all use the same light. Now we have a solar light each, we always have light."
"I feel better at night because I have my own light to take with me when I go to the toilet or help mum with work. Thank you for making night time better.”
Your lights are on their way!
After weeks of working closely with customs agencies, we are glad to see over 4,500 lights with our amazing distribution partners in Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania and Vanuatu.
Right now there are over 8,000 of your lights sailing across the sea, ready to brighten the lives of families living in energy poverty.
I founded SolarBuddy with a vision to make the lives of all children brighter, starting with the premise that every child should have their own bedside light. A light to read by, study by and see the night through. Everything is for the children, it always has been and always will be.
