Lifetime clean water for Tarahumara Community

Hello dear donors!!

I want to tell you about the experience that goes around in one of the steps of the development of the rainwater harvesting System Project, which consists of holding a community meeting with the Project´s recipients.

Prior to this process, a visit to the community that requested the support is needed in order to schedule the day and time the meeting will take place.

Finally, there is no deadline that is not met; after a 3-hour ride from the operational offices, we reached the community of Nonoava in the municipality of Guachochi (one of the many communities that are in extreme poverty and suffer from lack of water), within the Sierra Tarahumara. Already gathered where the families, men, women, and children who were excited waiting for us.

The environment that surrounds the community is special, full of an unimaginable and indescribable enigma; with its spectacular landscape characterize for a sense of tranquility and connection. You can feel their appreciation for being visualized and supported and that is an emotion that cannot be imagined nor described.

We choose the most suitable space so that everyone can listen to the talk and be attentive to the instructions that will be given to them. It is important to mention that the talk is carried out both in Spanish and in their Ralámuli language, (traditional from the Sierra Tarahumara) in addition to visual material.

In the talk we addressed various topics such as the multiple benefits that they will acquired by having their system, as well as, suggestions on how they should use and take care of the water obtained since it will only be for personal consumption and will help them to have this vital liquid in the dry months.

After our discussion, they sign or put their fingerprint in a letter in which they commit to build their system under the supervision of the technician assigned by the community, attend and respect the dates and hours of the workshop training, and that they will not be able to sell nor transfer the material received.

To close this meeting, they set the day and time, as well as the house in which the workshop will be held, where they will be trained in the construction of their rainwater harvesting system.

Pretty soon I will tell you all about my experience participating in a workshop.

She is a  6 years old kid, was born with a problem in her spine, which prevents her from being able to walk, is a cheerful girl, shares games with her brother of 9 years old, who has hearing problems.

They are in charge of their Granny, who has to take care of her grandchildren, since her mother, had to leave the community to improve the quality of life of her other children, leaving them with disabilities in the care of their grandmother.

She has another 11 years old brother, but he goes out to work to provide them with daily sustenance.

Their Granny walks 2 hours to bring water to her home for personal consumption, leaving them alone.

Thanks to their donations we will be able to build their rainwater harvesting system, so that they can have water in their house and their grandmother can be with her.

We also got her a wheelchair so she can move arround.

We still need their valuable donation to be able to build them a house suitable for their needs.
