The pandemic that is affecting the whole world has officially arrived also to Tanzania and the government on Friday 20th of March ordered to close schools.
Our kids had been anxious in the last weeks about the health of their sponsors, asking us about them in Italy and everywhere in the world. Now we too in Tanzania have to face a state of emergency.
We all at Malaika are very close to everybody in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, and everywhere who are experiencing these hard moments, and we hope that the world will recover serenity soon.
How is our Malaika family reorganizing life in the meanwhile? - we asked Director Jutta Kassam.
"In the same way as elsewhere, being isolated and closed at home. Two female members of the staff, who usually take care of the house and the children, are kindly available to stay at Malaika as long as necessary; therefore, they will not return home for shifting after one week but will rest inside the structure. This new organization started last Friday".
The older children will help with everyday tasks, i.e., cleaning, cooking, taking care of the little ones, washing clothes. They will also take care of the garden, the vegetable garden, and the animals.
In the photo, you see our oldest girl with the youngest baby: with the closure of boarding schools, now they will live together every day.
Of course, everyone will continue to study at home: the grown-ups will organize themselves to learn lessons by themselves and to help the little ones to go on in learning, aided by textbooks, and by their creativity. Boys and girls have quickly become teachers for younger children!
Unfortunately, these are tough times for the whole world, and Tanzania is no exception. We hope that the consequences of the infection will not be not too adverse in this country, which certainly does not have the health structures of the western states and where it is complicated to respect the safety distances.
Best wishes to all of you and take care!
