Pakistan Flood & Monsoon Relief - Ongoing Efforts

Dear HOPE Friends, 

Ramadan in Azad Kashmir - 500 Home School Children Participate in Sit-Down Iftar and Eid Clothes Distribution - Featuring AJK Government Officials

Last week, 500 disadvantaged students from HOPE's Thotha Parhor and Dhani Bakala Home Schools in AJK convened to participate in a community iftar event presided by AJK government officials and the HOPE Field team.  

Throughout the year and in Ramadan, the HOPE Team strives to initiate community events to foster emotional development and generate fond memories amongst children living in dire conditions.  After enjoying a meal together, the children are presented with new Eid Clothes by which they can feel special and included for the upcoming holiday.

HOPE's AJK Maternal and Child Healthcare Coordinator, Ms. Sanjeeda, along with HOPE's AJK Home School Coordinator, Ms. Naila, worked diligently to execute a Sit-down Iftar and Eid Clothes distribution for 500 Home School children.  Among our special guests in attendance were Dr. Tahir Moghal (Deputy Health Officer of District Jhelum) along with Divisional Director of Education, Mr. Jalil Jalali.

Divisional Director of Education, Mr. Jalil Jalali, appreciated the efforts of HOPE and said, "HOPE's work in the education and health spheres is truly commendable and worthy of emulation."

Deputy Health Officer, Dr. Tahir Rahim Mughal, also recognized the role of HOPE in promoting public health and considered HOPE's impact in the region significant.

We are extremely grateful to Ms. Sanjeeda and Ms. Naila, along with Dr. Tahir Moghal and Mr. Jalil Jalali, for their relentless dedication and efforts to promote poverty alleviation efforts throughout the rough terrain of AJK.  They have all gone above and beyond the call of duty to create change and transform lives.  We also wanted to thank Journalist Syed Yousaf Hamdani and Mubarak Hussain Awwan as well as UrduPaper for capturing these special moments for us.

Procter & Gamble Celebrates 20 Years of Clean Water Efforts and Highlights HOPE Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla as a South Asia Clean Water Champion

Even before HOPE's longstanding partner in clean water efforts, Procter & Gamble, introduced its Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) initiative 20 years ago, HOPE Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, had been advocating for clean water in Pakistan, especially with regards to underserved communities who are more vulnerable to adverse health outcomes.  

As a change proponent for the socioeconomic welfare of downtrodden communities in Pakistan, Dr. Mubina partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the early 2000s to conduct field studies and trials for improved health outcomes.  Working alongside CDC researchers, Dr. Mubina rigorously tested and documented the effectiveness and safety of P&G's Purifier sachets.  Her research was published in leading journals and used to provide the scientific foundation for P&G's CDSW Program.

Since then, P&G has joined hands with HOPE to provide over 50 million liters of P&G Purifier sachets to tens of thousands of children and families living in poverty throughout Pakistan.  HOPE has been the sole authorized distributor of P&G's Purifier sachets in Pakistan, both via established routine clean water efforts and urgent natural disasters such as the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake and 2022 Pakistan Floods.  

HOPE's partnership with P&G during the ravishing 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis was transformative as 1/3 of the country was underwater and 33 million people were impacted.  Polluted water is a breeding and transmission medium for various diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, and dengue fever, and the criticality of distributing clean water during natural disasters is a matter of saving lives.  During our Disaster Relief Efforts following the 2022 Pakistan Floods alone, HOPE distributed 21 million liters of Purifier sachets to thousands of families in need, thanks to our partnership with P&G.

As P&G celebrates 20 years of advancing clean water efforts through CSDW, we are humbled to take part in their journey and milestones.  Dr. Mubina's and HOPE's collaboration with P&G can be found here: https://csdw.org/partners/ . 

Dr. Mubina expressed that "Clean water is more critical than ever," and she looks forward to helping the CSDW Program reach the 25-billion-liter milestone in 2025.
