Greetings from St martins school and the Kibagare Community,
Schools have reopened on the 8th of January for the new calendar year and we have also resumed the weekend feeding program because most of the children are back in the slum and the attend school at St Martins.
The Saturday feeding program helps in the feeding of children in the Kibagare slum and other sorrounding slums in Kangemi where our school is located.
Food security and poverty is still a huge problem in the country and more so in informal settlements. Kibagare being a settlement and with a growing population of people living in poverty is largel affected. The most affected are children who have little to choose from and many end up hungry and missing out on school as the are at times forced to fend for themselves. With the guarantee of a meal over the weekend we help minimise such cases.
We have been able to conduct two feeding programs since we reopened school feeding a total of 2800 children.
With support we receive and continue to receive for the feeding program we hope to be able to feed more children as the year progresses. We are more than grateful for the support and we will be sure to send more updates.
Best regards,
Alfred Aswan.
