Thank you for being sensitive to vulnerable situations of pregnant women! For those women knowing that they are not alone is life changing!
During past 4 months we had 120 new people who applied for the help at our Centre. These were women who sought help in their despair while pregnant, after birth or baby loss.
"The news about pregnancy came unexpectedly and I felt that my life was slipping out from under my feet. The father of the child, with whom we had been in contact for only a few months, refused to take responsibility and I was left alone. After unsuccessful abortion attempt, I broke down and wanted to save the child at any cost. It's sad, but when you read other women's stories on this page (www.krizinionestumocentras.lt), you'll find more than one that starts just like mine. Each of us wants life to go perfectly, "according to the textbook", but sometimes we have to face unexpected situations that require more strength than we have at the time. The period from the positive pregnancy test to the birth of the child was insanely difficult. Some days I just cried walking down the street. There was no way I could pull myself together. It was at that moment that the Crisis Pregnancy Center offered its help. Psychologist Ruta accompanied me throughout this difficult journey of pregnancy and still is to this day, already after the birth of the child. Although the pregnancy was really traumatic, those few months extremely strengthened and nurtured me. The child was born healthy and calm, and his smile always reminds me that every moment of pain was worth the result."
We are lucky to see how women’s moods change after some time, usually after giving birth and meeting one’s child. During those 4 months we got news about 24 babies born to women who got help at our Centre.
Help provided:
Every year we initiate campaign “Christmas Eve Supper for lonely mothers and their children”. We help mothers to buy food for their Christmas table, the food that would be delicious and of satisfactory amount. This year 38 women and 90 children got such help! It’s worth was 2150 euro. We are so glad that they could have Christmas without fear what to put on the table.
“Thank you very much. Such an unexpected and joyful gift for the whole family. I don't even know how to repay such kindness and help from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your work, kindness and support. I wish you a nice and cozy holiday.”
Self-help groups:
During 4 month period we had 5 different self-help groups for women: 1 group for women who had miscarriages, 1 for those who were facing postpartum depressions, 2 groups for women who gave birth and are in need to discuss about motherhood and 1 group for those women who were facing crisis pregnancies. Totally 41 women attended those groups.
"I felt much safer attending the self-help group, because I knew that every Monday there would be a circle of people who would accept me, listen to me and support me. I also felt less lonely and felt less guilty about being a bad mother. I really liked that I did not receive evaluations from both the group leaders and the participants, but on the contrary, everyone reacted in such a way that I felt that I cared.”
Annual volunteer and employee gathering:
In November we had productive 2 day trainings for our volunteers and employees. 20 persons participated in them. This annual volunteer and employee meeting is very important to share our experience, knowledge, discuss dilemma situations and in such way improve our help.
Topics discussed:
1.Specifics of counselling during crisis pregnancy. Peculiarities of counselling. Discussion of dilemma situations.
2. Features of counselling for women who have experienced a miscarriage or the loss of a newborn. Discussion of dilemma situations.
3. Features of counselling for women who have had an abortion. Discussion of dilemma situations.
4. Features of counselling for women experiencing difficult emotions in the postpartum period. Discussion of dilemma situations.
Thanks to your help, we can continue working to help the women in need of support in their very difficult crisis situations. Thank you!
With warm regards,
Krizinio neštumo centras team
