Building Benches and Building Futures

By Cassie Senn | Programmes and Office Assistant

SEED Madagascar is thrilled to share that Project Sekoly: Fanaka Phase II is well underway. On April 14th, 2025, 214 flat-packed desk-benches were delivered to Ranopiso Primary School in the rural Anosy region. Over the next ten days, these benches will be constructed on-site, transforming the school’s classrooms and significantly improving the learning environment for the students.

In many rural schools across the region, including Ranopiso, students often study on the floor or share two-person benches between three or four students. This situation can make it challenging to write and focus during lessons, limiting both comfort and learning outcomes. The desk-benches are essential classroom furniture which will allow the students to now learn in a more comfortable environment, boosting their concentration and participation.

Importantly, the arrival of the desk-benches means that students in their final year at Ranopiso, and from surrounding primary schools, can sit the national primary school exam in June in a more suitable learning environment; giving all students the chance to reach their full potential. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed, and these 214 desk-benches brings us one step closer to making that a reality.

SEED Madagascar is excited to continue with Fanaka Phase II, and make further progress on our goals of delivering 1,307 desk-benches to 17 rural schools. This will provide over 5,400 students with the essential classroom furniture they need to learn comfortably.

We are grateful for your continued support and for being part of this journey with us, ensuring every child has the access and opportunity to learn and thrive. Together, we’re not just building benches; we’re building brighter futures!
