Sandra y Cecily: working together / colaborando
Sandra y Cecily: working together / colaborando

Cécily, Widmar and Sandra are three young people who first became involved with Punto Crea in 2018 as  youth participants in Punto Crea's learning activities. You likely have seen their names and photos in our donation acknowledgement letters already. All three are ambitious, driven individuals. Widmar has climbed Tajumulco, at 13,845 feet (4,220 metres) the highest volcano in Central America, five times, but he also plays the drums in a band. Sandra loves to sing in the choir and is passionate about computer hardware. And Cécily not only designed her “personal brand” — she enjoys exploring graphic design, but has been a finalist in Balam, the national robotics championship (actually, Sandra also got an honorable mention!).

Over the challenging months of 2020 all three continued to attend Punto Crea, and blazed the trail as volunteer tutors as we learnt how to deliver our services exclusively online, relying on what youth already had at home. All three completed the three phases of our tutor training program, which required that they set up at least one Punto Crea youth group of their own.

When in February 2021 we started up operations with USAID funding once again we needed to hire three new facilitators. What made more sense but to offer the job to Sandra, Widmar and Cécily? With guidance from Ismael, but also from Vitalino, another seasoned facilitator we were now able to rehire, the three junior facilitators are starting down the path of themselves providing support to other tutors and Punto Crea youth groups.

Punto Crea was never intended as a one-off project: we are in this for the long run. A key piece of the challenge is developing a permanent supply of motivated, knowledgeable young leaders who can expand Punto Crea into more communities and reach more youth. By hiring Cécily, Widmar and Sandra we want to say: we believe in what we are doing. Above all, we believe in youth and their ability to face challenges and creatively make change in their communities.

Each of these communities and every young person, whether a participant, a tutor or a facilitator, is going to need all the help they can get. Your contribution is essential to this. Thanks for having helped us come this far. Please help us spread the news by sharing this story with your family, friends and colleagues. And please invite them to pitch in for the long run, just like you have!

------
