HOPE Renews Village Healthcare w/ Asia Petroleum

HOPE and Asia Petroleum Join Hands to Renew Healthcare for Remote Villagers

This week, HOPE Pakistan Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, met with Asia Petroleum executives to renew HOPE's Mobile Health Unit (MHU) collaboration, an ongoing effort which has recently celebrated 10 strong years of services for the poor.

Asia Petroleum has magnanimously sponsored healthcare for approximately 15 remote villages in Balochistan and Sindh, Pakistan via HOPE's two MHUs since 2014.

The concept of a MHU stems from HOPE's mission to provide underserved populations in Pakistan with poverty alleviation services such as Healthcare, Education, and Vocational Training.

As the name implies, HOPE's MHUs provide basic health services to remote villages which would otherwise not have access to essential care. Special emphasis is given to advancing necessary, life-saving healthcare to vulnerable populations, and within these parameters we take extra strides to reach women and children who are often at a disadvantage when it comes to receiving critical interventions.

In 2023, a total of 72,384 patients were treated in both of HOPE’s Mobile Health Clinics. This included: 39,936 children, 17,472 men, and 14,976 women.

HOPE's MHUs provide the following healthcare services to remote villages in Balochistan and Sindh:

Treating communicable diseases such as diarrhea, respiratory infections, vomiting, and noncommunicable diseases such as malnutrition
Basic medical services
Gynecologic and obstetric care

We are excited to embark on yet another fruitful year of providing services to underprivileged populations with the generosity of Asia Petroleum. 1,500 Served Biryani Across Pakistan

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE Team Delivers Biryani to 1,500 Needy People Across Pakistan

As part of our efforts towards reducing hunger and malnutrition in Pakistan, the HOPE field team regularly distributes cooked food to constituents in various underserved neighborhoods and villages throughout the country. Last week, we ramped up our outreach and served over 1,500 packets of biryani too all areas in which we operate in Pakistan .

Below is a collage representing our biryani distribution which took place between July 12 and July 15, 2024. Areas reached included our MCHCs in the Northern Areas (Garhi Habibullah and Mansehra, KPK along with Langarpura, Azad Kashmir) disadvantaged slum areas in Karachi, Sindh (Zia Colony and 100 Quarters), large poor districts outside of Karachi, Sindh (Thatta and Sujawal), and remote village regions within Sindh (Link Road in Ghaggar).

Food security is a growing need in Pakistan and around the world, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic triggered excessive inflation across many countries. In Pakistan, the aftermath of the 2022 Flood Crisis and political instability have further exacerbated the need to fight hunger amidst a rising poor population. In an effort to assuage the pressing situation, HOPE has incorporated two main ways by which we are directly combatting hunger in Pakistan:

Monthly Food Rations Distribution - Just $33 provides dry food rations for a family of 8 for one month
Cooked Food Distribution - Just $1 sponsors a hot meal of biryani delivered to a Zakat-eligible person

Our Food Rations program is a donor-initiated idea which started off as a humble project to provide food essentials to 22 of our most needy families within the Karachi metropolitan area and has catapulted to become an established staple in our poverty alleviation portfolio. Alongside with the regular monthly distribution of food rations, we reinforce these food security efforts by serving cooked food such as biryani on various occasions throughout the year.

HOPE Launches its 11th MCHC in Azad Kashmir

Dear HOPE Friends,

We are excited to share with you the latest addition to our fleet of Maternal ‍& Child Health Centers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan!

On May 3, 2024, in conjunction with the Azad Kashmir Department of Health, HOPE launched a MCHC in Chakhama, Azad Kashmir. This facility will provide 24/7 healthcare (with a special focus on maternal and child services) to the surrounding village population.

The Azad Kashmir Department of Health has donated a vacant facility and medical supplies in order to propel this project forward. HOPE will be contributing their expertise in terms of medical staff for this endeavor.

Maternal ‍and Infant Mortality is adversely high in Pakistan due to various factors including high poverty rates as well as the general lack of government-sponsored interventions for the poor. It is not surprising that in remote and rural areas this problem is further compounded due to the dearth of healthcare facilities in these regions - traditionally mothers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan have given birth in their homes. Unfortunately, when labor complications have arisen, healthcare facilities are often too far away to access in a timely manner. And even if facilities are present, most villagers cannot afford basic human rights such as healthcare .

HOPE has taken the window of opportunity to bridge the gap in the well-researched fact that 33% of Maternal ‍ deaths and 80% of Infant deaths in Pakistan are preventable. We have made it a priority to save precious lives. To date, we honored to report that with this latest addition, we currently operate a total of 11 MCHCs, 4 Hospitals, 1 Basic Health Unit, and 2 Mobile Health Units throughout Pakistan.
