Dear Global Givers,

For many years now, El Sistema Greece has remained committed to its mission to empower children through the power of music. At the Controlled Temporary Accommodation Facility for Asylum Seekers at Schisto El Sistema Greece has been offering music lessons since 2022 and until now many children have joined our big music family. One of them is Rohiv, an 11 year old girl from Syria.

Rohiv’s introduction to music came only a few months ago, when she joined our viola classes. Yet in that short time, she has been integrated into our community and started her own discovery through music.

Her story takes a transformative turn with the arrival of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, whose visit was more than inspiring for our students. In the light of this memorable encounter, Rohiv and her peers seized the opportunity to showcase their talents. With violins and violas in hand, they formed a small orchestra, and performed for our visitors, resonating with the dreams of a brighter tomorrow.

For Rohiv, this performance marks a turning point. Inspired by the orchestra and the common passion for music shared with her fellow musicians, her dedication to her music classes reached new heights. Fuelled by a deep inner love for music and especially for viola, she is fully committed to her studies and practices every day to develop her skills. She has now discovered a new purpose and aspires to become a musician.

The impact of this key moment extends far beyond the field of practice. Since that day, Rohiv, apart from music, has discovered a place where her voice can be heard, transcending linguistic and cultural boundaries. In the midst of uncertainty, El Sistema Greece has become a place of belonging for her and an environment where her talent can truly grow.

Dear Global Givers,

During its journey, El Sistema Greece has remained committed to its mission to provide children with opportunities through music. One of these children is our student Kamila, a 12-year-old Syrian refugee, who lives in the controlled temporary accommodation facility for asylum seekers at Schisto. Within this challenging situation of displacement, El Sistema Greece emerged as a beacon of hope and transformation for her.

Hailing from Syria, Kamila's journey was marked by uncertainties but music emerged as a bright opportunity for her. Through the music classes offered by El Sistema Greece, Kamila discovered solace and joy, particularly in violin and choir classes where her talent grew. Her dedication and passion for music became a guiding light, transcending the barriers of her circumstances. Despite the challenges she faced as a young refugee, Kamila's commitment to her music classes was unwavering. It was this dedication that led her to a remarkable milestone, her participation in the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir's big concert in December 2023.

The concert, held at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, was a transformative experience for Kamila. Standing proudly alongside her fellow choir members, she sang her heart out, embracing the power of music to unite and uplift spirits. For Kamila, it was more than just a performance; it was a testament to resilience and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

Dear Global Givers,

As we embark on the 8th academic year of El Sistema Greece, we are continually inspired by the passion and dedication of our students during the last years.

Today, we are thrilled to share with you the story of one of our remarkable students, Alesio. Alesio is one of our most dedicated students, he is from Albania and he is 18 years old. Alesio's musical journey started five years ago when he first joined our French horn classes here at El Sistema Greece. This was Alesio’s first contact with the world of music. Through his commitment and the guidance of his teacher, Alesio has not only joined the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra but has also become a member of our Young Leaders Program.

In the year 2023, Alesio led the collective effort of the Young Leaders team to organize their own event: a concert for the El Sistema Greece Summer Camp. His peers, recognizing his exceptional talents and leadership qualities, selected him as the head of their team for this project. Alesio's responsibilities encompassed every facet of the production, from composing new pieces to coordinating the logistics and ultimately directing the concert. On the day of the concert Alesio, as a real maestro, guided the orchestra towards a resounding success.

We are very proud of our students who are empowered and inspired to explore new aspects of the world of music and create their own projects. Alesio is one of them who as a real team player worked to create a collective effort towards social development.

Alesio's journey is a testament to the transformative power of music and the empowerment of our students. We are immensely proud of his achievements and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of all our young talents.
