Thank you to supporters of the BridgIT Water Foundation / Bulindi Chimpanzee & Community Project water well at Nyaituma-Lower Village in western Uganda. I am pleased to report that BCCP was just able to secure funding for the balance of the well from a generous supporter. This is great news because a water well in the village means that the people, and often the children, will no longer have to enter the Chimpanzee habitat to collect contaminated surface water. By staying clear of the Chimps, the children will not risk being attacked by while collecting water, as was the case for the young girl that spurred this emergency fundraising campaign. By tapping the groundwater resource, and eliminating the need to use water contaminated with waterborne pathogens, the health of the people living at Nyaituma-Lower Village will be much improved. As Dr. Matt McLennan of BCCP would say, a big 'Pant Hoots' to all supporters of this campaign!
Much work remains to be done in the villages near Hoima, Uganda, because there are many more villages that need water wells so the people can minimize interactions with the Chimpanzees. BridgIT and BCCP will continue to create campaigns on Global Giving to raised funds for these projects. Please keep an eye out for these fundraisers.
