We know that you care about scholarships for youth aging out of foster care. I wish we could report that we are thousands of dollars raised but this project is in need of more support. The good news is, we have time. Comfort Cases' scholarships are awarded each year at our annual Backyard BBQ. This year's award will be distributed on September 30, 2023. If you read our last report to you, Comfort Cases awarded two scholarships last October:
1. Parker is a freshman attending Arizona State University who is pursuing a career in creative writing. She wants to use her talents to share stories, help others, and shed light on important social issues. In high school, she was part of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA), the school broadcast center, the yearbook, and the art club. Outside of school, she was part of the program, First Star Academy, which helped children in the foster system prepare for college or independent living.
2. Ashley is a student at East Stroudsburg University who is pursuing studies in psychology and guidance counseling. She is an active member of the ESU Christian Fellowship and she volunteers with the kindness project. She is also part of the "Fostering Warriors Program" connecting, guiding, and building relationships with other foster students.
It is always so heartwarming to see the deep appreciation on their faces when they receive the scholarship. It is inspiring and gives thousands of other young people in foster care to realize the possibility of a life fulfilled.
So, friend, I would like to invite you to listen to my latest podcast to tap into just how important helping young people in foster care is. In this podcast, I interview my son, Makai. Some of what you’ll hear from Makai on this episode of Fostering Change:
“Your voice counts. One person can make a change.”
“Once you try it, it’s possible.”
“Don’t listen to what other people say – there’s nothing good about listening to the negative.”
“Always do good for other people.”
“Don’t always take the easy path in life.”
Let's keep going! Be sure to share your enthusiasm for this project and for Comfort Cases so that more people know that they can make a difference as you have!
Thank you for taking part in Comfort Cases' life-changing scholarship program and for continuing to support young people growing up in foster care.
Sincerely,
Rob Scheer, Founder
