The EBZEF Spring Board meeting on March 25was most successful, with enthusiastic Board members participating via Zoom from Florida to Oregon, from Idaho to Zambia.
Twenty-one Beth’s Girls are actively engaged with their education including classes, field studies, and “practicals” (i. e., internships). They are studying early childhood development, teaching, nursing, catering, electrical engineering, medicine (general physician, ophthalmology, surgery), pharmaceuticals, metal fabrication, public administration, as well as sustainable natural resources management & climate change.
The Pre-School has a high attendance rate at 50 young learners (27 girls and 23 boys). The food and garden project is well underway, with a resulting rise in attendance. Significant progress has been made on the new lavatory as well. The Memorial Library continues to provide rich literacy support for the entire community.
Lumwana West Secondary School is in session with new teachers, new classrooms, new desks, and a student population of 702 students (girls = 333, boys = 369). The Science Lab reconstruction project is close to completion, with new projects in the works to provide lab materials and supplies as well as solar power and water.
The May issue of THE PROTEA (EBZEF’s bi-annual newsletter) is now available. Each issue is designed to show you exactly where your funds are going. You’ll be excited to see how, with your kind support, EBZEF’s programs are making a significant difference in the lives of Beth’s Girls and their entire community on the other side of the world.
