A heartfelt thank you to everyone that has donated and continues to support our campaign "Support our Wildlife Warriors"!! We kicked off 2022 with an eventful two months for our Wildlife Warriors. On the 24th of January 2022 the Rangers did shooting practice. The exercises on the range included rifle sighting practice, rapid fire practice and a situational awareness obstacle course. The situational awareness obstacle course included three types of concealments and they were tested on which one of the three shooting positions they used at each concealment type. A firearm safety refresher also formed part of the shooting practice.
We also had the Global Conservation Force instructors training the Rangers on the 25th and 26th of January 2022. The training was generously sponsored by Global Conservation Force. The team was split into two groups and each group attended one day of training to allow enough Rangers to still carry on with essential daily patrols. Coursework was specific to first aid, emergency response, suspect vehicle approaches and arrest procedures, and firearms field/patrol use. The Rangers really enjoyed the training and we would like to thank Mike Veale and his amazing team for the great course work that they presented.
The team have also been doing brilliantly with fitness training every week. It has come to our attention that the team are in need of new or old running shoes to do PT in. They are currently using their gumboots or work boots to train in, and this is not ideal. If you are able to help with this in any way with new or old shoes please contact our project coordinator, Sam Kruger, admin@zululandconservationtrust.org.
We have also made good progress with regards to our own on-site canine unit. We look forward to sharing more information on this on our next report. This will dramatically increase our reaction times and will assist our Wildlife Warriors with apprehensions. We are still desperately in need of more protective clothing that is the most important equipment for our Warriors who work in harsh weather conditions. Our goal is to provide each Ranger with and extra set of protective clothing and boots.
If you would like to support our Wildlife Warriors, please consider a contribution towards our funds! Every donation helps us to achieve our goal and is deeply appreciated.
