"There is no greater hardship than not having enough to feed your children. We are deeply grateful for your generous support towards the project titled Formula and Baby WASH for Babies in Ethiopia (59852). Your donation has made a significant impact on the lives of many vulnerable children who have faced the dire hardship of not having enough food or proper nutrition.

Before this project, many children at MHO rehabilitation were severely affected by a lack of nutritional needs, compounded by challenges in breastfeeding, high formula costs, and the rising prices of food. These issues were further exacerbated by limited access to basic sanitation and hygiene services, making it difficult for MHO to meet the nutritional, hygiene, and sanitation needs of these children.

Thanks to your kind support, MHO has been able to provide baby formula, a balanced diet, and essential nutrients for babies, along with Baby WASH facilities and safe shelter. This aid has benefited 90 children between the ages of 0-5 in the MHO rehabilitation center, including orphans, abandoned children, and those deprived of family care. These children were previously deprived of basic food, nutrition, shelter, medical attention, and hygiene, but with your help, they now have the opportunity to thrive.

In addition to supporting the children, the project has also alleviated the breastfeeding challenges faced by many mothers, providing them with much-needed relief.

On behalf of everyone at MHO, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generosity. Your support is helping improve the health, development, and well-being of these children, enabling them to grow in a safe and nurturing environment.

Thank you for your continued commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of these children.

Challenges

MHO strongly believes that the long-term success and sustainability of an organization depend on the consistent availability of resources to support its operations in a self-sustaining manner. However, resource scarcity and fierce competition for donor support remain significant challenges, especially for grassroots organizations in Ethiopia.

Additionally, reliance on foreign donor funding presents its own challenges. While such funding may be available in the short term, it is often unpredictable and unsustainable. Funds can be withdrawn without notice, and when they do return, there is no certainty about the amount or timing. This uncertainty has been further exacerbated by recent global turbulence, including the impact of the USAID freeze, which has significantly affected organizations like MHO.

The freeze on USAID funding has had a direct impact on MHO, increasing the demand for services while limiting available resources. This situation places additional responsibility on GlobalGiving, which has stepped up to support its members more than ever before. GlobalGiving remains the only viable alternative, offering a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects and continuing to democratize aid on a global scale.

As we face these challenges, the support of our donors, partners, and platforms like GlobalGiving remains essential in ensuring we can continue our vital work and serve those in need.

Warm regards,

MHO Team
