Kawempe Home Care Quarterly Report

Walter and child enjoying lunch.

It certainly has been a difficult start to 2023 for many people in the world. Especially those people living in conflict zones and experiencing natural disasters. More than ever, we all need to pull together and help those who are having a very difficult time.

The GlobalGiving campaigns provide vital income support for our New Hope Children’s hostel and we hope in 2023 you will continue to support the children with cancer that stay at our hostel, so they can access treatment.

The majority of the donations received in 2022 went on food for the children and their caregivers (60 people at any one time). Our weekly grocery bill for the hostel is about US$410.

Like so many not for profits we will be doing it tough this year as many of the funders who supported not for profits, are also suffering from lack of funds to continue with their worthwhile programs.

At KHC we know what we do is very important so that children like Walter (above) get a chance of coming through their terrible illness. Your support helps children like Walter.

Walter is 8 years old and for over 12 months he experienced fever, pain in his joints and general weakness. In 2022 he was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney after he was referred to Uganda Cancer Institute for tests. He and his mother were given support by the New Hope Children’s hostel during his chemotherapy treatment.

The good news is that Walter's  condition has improved dramatically and his pain level has reduced. He now has a reason to smile.

“Based on the treatment my son is receiving, he is getting better. I am very grateful to the staff at the New Hope Children's Hostel for the support and care they have given us during this terrible time when you don’t know your child will live or not.. The treatment, food, transportation and all the psychosocial support have when helped my son and I am so grateful that he is getting better.” Says his mother.

Thank you for your wonderful support.
