Young people taking action for their good and the good of others
By Caroline Millman | Chairman, PeaceJam UK
We are busy making the final preparations for our Slam on Saturday 11 March which will be “in-person” at The University of Winchester, and “virtual” for those who are unable to get to Winchester. Adding to the excitement of the day being themed around “Perseverance”, we have two short sessions around building stronger and more compassionate communities and helping individuals find happiness, being delivered by our Laughter Consultant, Robin Graham. The panel of young activists and the workshops will allow the young people to consider many aspects of caring for the environment, the issues of refugees, and achieving conflict resolution. There is also a session on Social Action planning, when the young people can consider what issue they might like to address in their community, and devise an action plan to do something about it.
Taking action is one of the three elements around which the PeaceJam programme works: Education, Inspiration, Action. We have had a great example of the “action” element during the workshops that we continue to deliver with Football for Peace in Bradford. Our Generation Change team have been busy delivering more workshops with these young footballers. At the end of the workshops the participants complete a “My Acts of Kindness” sheet, with nine boxes to fill. There has then been much enthusiasm for "taking action" by tidying up the pond area on the University campus.
Helping young people recognise that they have a valuable role to play in their communities, and that they can make a change, and can make a difference to their lives and the lives of others is at the heart of everything we do. Your support allows us to continue working with more and more young people to educate and inspire them to identify their own worth and take action for their own good and the good of others. Thank you very much.

PeaceJam UK Youth Team continues to lead the way
By Caroline Millman | Chairman, PeaceJam UK
With many thanks to all our supporters, the work of our PeaceJam UK Youth Leadership Team continues to grow. In their drive to support young people develop more confidence about their futures and how they can contribute to and change their communities, they have been active with preparations for the PeaceJam UK one-day Slam which has been postponed to Saturday 11 March 2023.
The team has been polishing the programmes for the day, and for the six-week wrapround activities that schools, and youth groups can use to prepare and debrief their students. This has involved putting together a range of great, interactive workshops around the three strands of: Climate Change, Refugees, and Conflict Prevention; organising an excellent group of young panellists; and training university students to mentor and lead the discussion groups.
The six-week programme is packed with wonderful activities that will be released four weeks before the Slam and continue for two weeks after the Slam when there will be a “virtual” follow-up event to help with project development. And it is linked to the “Active Citizenship” element of the GCSE Citizenship syllabus.
Your support continues to be invaluable, allowing us to grow the PeaceJam UK family of young people who are keen to change their futures and their communities for the better. Thank you so much.

Near-peer power - young inspiring younger
By Caroline Millman | Chairman, PeaceJam UK
We have had an exciting time over the past couple of months with some great workshops with a school in Bolton and with groups that are working with Football for Peace, so your continued support is certainly reaping rewards.
Some members of our Generation Change team ran some excellent workshops with four Year 9 groups that were run virtually and received very well. One student’s comment was simply, “Wow, I loved it!”. Another group of the team ran an “in person” afternoon at Bradford University with a group of 14-year-olds who are working with Football for Peace. The afternoon included some “hands on” community action with litter picking across the University campus. The whole workshop was very successful, and more sessions are planned.
Our PeaceJam UK Youth Leadership Team are constructing the programme for our November event. There will be a one-day PeaceJam UK Slam on Saturday 12 November with a great theme - “Perseverance”, and three strands: Environment, Refugees, and Violence Prevention. The in-person event will take place at The University of Winchester and there will be a virtual event running alongside. There will be a question and answer session with a panel of young activists, group discussions, workshops and much, much more. The event flier is attached, and the registration site will open very soon.
Your support has enabled us to release the power of our Youth Team and the young mentors and facilitators of our Generation Change team. These young people continue to make a significant difference to the experiences and lives of other young people and are building a larger and larger cohort of young people who want to work for peace and make change. Thank you so much for your generosity.
