The typical school year for children in Thailand begins in mid-May. They, and probably their teachers, enjoy a well-deserved break in October. The timing is great for many as it's perfect to harvest the rice crops. The children return to school the beginning of November until completion of the year in mid-March.
Times of no school can be burdensome for parents, especially those with no financial ability to hire a sitter or send the child to another province to visit extended family members. It's too unsafe for children to be at home alone.
Our family resource centers provide day camp for the children throughout their school holiday. Dedicated and compassionate staff members ensure the facility is opened by 7:00 AM as parents are leaving for their workday. They provide breakfast, lunch and two snacks to ensure adequate nutrition. They provide class rotations of Thai and English languages, penmanship, mathematics, arts and crafts, reading comprehension, and more. They take time to create wish lists for Christmas in hopes of a personalized gift. They write thank you notes to their sponsors across the globe. They play. They dance. They sing. They laugh. They develop new skills like weaving headbands and toboggans, and barbering. They celebrate birthdays. They enjoy a back-to-school party. It's a blast! Possibly the more greatest benefit to the parents is knowing without a doubt their child is in a safe place throughout their entire workday throughout the weekdays, Monday through Friday.
In a place where children are considered an avenue to gain financially through exploitation and child labor, the bright joy of loving care eliminate fears.
Because of your compassion and generous donations, eighty seven children spent their harvest-time break in a safe haven filled with fun and activities.
