HOLA AMIGOS! Thank you for your donations!

Due to your generous contributions, Enseña por Panamá has been able to keep growing, reach more students and prepare better teachers: in 2019 we had 30 teachers working tirelessly, having a positive impact on 1148 students (primary and secondary). Last year was a year of many lessons and great achievements for Enseña por Panamá.

We started the year with great improvements in the placement process that had a positive effect on our teacher experience and classroom impact. Furthermore, we have developed a new curriculum for our training program that is aligned to our bets for the year. One of our focuses is the development of socio-emotional skills in students.

In addition to strengthening the curriculum for our participants, their students, and a change of approach with our alumni, we place great bets on recruitment, and institutional alliances. We launched the pilot program for teachers coming from the public educational system, through which professors who have permanent tenure in the Ministry of Education can be part of Enseña por Panamá. Having the best teachers of the public system in our program involved changes and new efforts in our recruitment campaign. On the other hand, in terms of alliances, we managed to establish an alliance with the Directorate of Secondary Education, to train in our methodologies a group of 45 teachers who during 2020 will serve as multipliers of the Enseña por Panamá methodology in their schools.

Aligned to the impact we want to have on the education system, we have three instruments: two that seek to know the academic impact and one the student's socio emotional. In terms of academic impact, we have a test that measures Reading Comprehension, and a survey that measures the effectiveness of the participant's teaching through the students' perception; While at the Socio-Emotional level, we have a survey that interrogates students for their development of three mentalities that we consider the most important and predictive of success: growth mentality, determination, and social awareness. There has been a steady improvement in all three instruments, specifically students social emotional learning; we have increased students’ perseverance, growth mentality and ability to work with others.

Given the above, by 2020 Enseña por Panamá has a total of 34 placements under the alliance with the Ministry of Education, and 11 with private schools. Our 45 teachers will be improving the reading comprehension and social emotions skills of more than 1722 students. We are excited for the start the school year, March 2020!
