December 2020 Report

COVID-19 AND NTASEKA CLINIC

In the month December 2020, Friends Women’s Association has continued to apply Covid-19 restrictions at Ntaseka Clinic for both the staff and the beneficiaries’ protection. Because of the support from AGLI of the Friends Peace Teams, GlobalGiving and the American Friends Service Committee, we currently still have disinfectants in our stock and fabric masks.

ACTIVITIESCaring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)

In the month of December 2020, medical follow up and home visits were done for our HIV positive people. On December 1st, 2020 FWA joined the world to celebrate the international day against HIV/AIDS. 80 beneficiairies were present, FWA founder, the local administration, and some of the FWA partners, including the Ministry of Public Health and fight against HIV/AIDS through the Northern Bujumbura Sanitary District, the Red Cross Burundi, Family Health International (FHI360), Harvest Initiatives and IPROSARUD

Sketches were used to demonstrate how the target and index screening is done. Indeed, if someone was found HIV positive, the counselor must combine strategies to make sure that his or her sexual partners and children are also tested.

Maternity Ward Building

In the month of December 2020, with the support from the Quaker Service Norway, the septic tanks of our maternity ward are already done.

Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH)

FWA community health workers and FWA staff have continued to educate men, women and young people on the importance of family planning.

On December 22, 2020, In partnership with the Burundian Association for the Family Well-being (ABUBEF) to educate people from Nyarumanga in Buterere zone on the importance of birth control.  

RESULTS FROM THE ABOVE ACTIVITY- 5 men benefited from male condoms

- 2 clients received counseling on the side effects of the contraceptive products they are using

- 6 clients received the DMPA contraceptive injection

- 6 clients received contraceptive pills

- 1 client received the JADELLE subcutaneous implant

- 2 men were prepared for the surgical contraception which will be made by ABUBEF after the consensus of their partners

Rape Survivors’ Support (RSS)

At the end of December 2020, we had a total of 115 Self-Help Groups for a total of 2688 women.

ACTION ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV)

In the month of December 2020, FWA organized two public events in Giheta, Gitega province and in Nyabiraba, Bujumbura province during the 16 days campaign of activism against GBV. Ther was also an exhange visit for 20 GBV accompanists, including five from Kibogoye in Giheta commune, Gitega province, 10 from Kibimba, Gitega province and five from Nyabiraba, Bujumbura province. The activity took place in Kibimba.

MEDICAL TEAM CONSULTATIONS

Our medical doctors consulted with 96 cases, including 51 adults (24 men and 27 women), 16 children (6 boys and 10 girls), 23 HIV positive people and six pregnant women for ultrasound. The nurse received 210patients including 153 adults and 57 children.

December 15-18, 2019 was a mother-child week. Ntaseka clinic was one of the vaccination centers as usual. We had a total of 2713 children and 30 pregnant women. Among the 2713, 86 children aged between 6 and 11 months were given Vitamin A, 1290 aged between 12 months and 59 months were given both Vitamin A and Albendazole, and 1337 aged between 5 years and 14 years were given Albendazole.

LABORATORY

In December 2020, apart from HIV voluntary testing, there were a total of 189 tests.

FAMILY PLANNING

510 people received contraceptives from FWA’s nurse, including 337 old cases and 173 new ones. 383 received the contraceptive injection, 57 were given pills, 60 received male condoms, and 10 received implants

PRENATAL CONSULTATION (PNC)

In the month of December 2020, 43 women came for prenatal consultation (PNC), including 22 who came for PNC 1, 12 for PNC 2 and 4 for PNC 3 and 5 for PNC 4.

Six pregnant women came for the ultrasound test.                        

ANTI-RETROVIRAL SITE

At the end of December 2020, we had 330 patients under retro drugs followed at NTASEKA clinic, including 267 women and 63 men.

PHARMACY

Regarding medications, FWA was able to purchase the minimum needed medicine.

PSYCHOSOCIAL TEAM

In the month of December 2020, a total of 33 people received pre and post HIV test counselling and were tested for HIV. Out of the total number, 85% were women and one woman was detected HIV positive with 4% of seropositivity.
