Testimony

My name is Desire, I lost my uncle in 2005 killed by the remaining fighting rebel group named FNL. During that time, I was finishing my secondary studies.  I heard that bad news on radio at 5PM. The thing that hurt me the most is that I didn’t get the opportunity to assist at his burial ceremony, we didn’t mourn until today. The perpetrators shot him and because he didn’t die immediately, they slaughtered him with a knife and took some parts of him. In fact, the rebels were after me because they said that they need to talk with the ‘’instructed boy’’. We just took a time to flee away with all the family. The other thing that hurt me is that the departure of my uncle created a void and divisions within our family. I met the very person who killed my uncle in 2012. In our discussion, it seemed that he took lightly what he did arguing that in those periods with just BIF 500 you could kill a person. This hurt me so much. I came to forgive them but I could not forget what they did to my family.
