Dear Friends,
We are happy to report that we continue to be hard at work in support of Association Saint-Camille (ASC) in Benin, Togo and Ivory Coast. The center in Chad is no longer under the umbrella of ASC. It has been turned over to local providers. We wish them well. There remains a plan to expand into Nigeria, at the border with Benin, which will ease logistical matters.
Currently, we are working on getting another shipment of donated medications to Benin by the end of the 4th quarter. This effort has been stymied by the lack of medication supply from pharmaceutical companies to our partner but it will certainly rebound.
In the interim, we have connected with two potentially new partners for donated medical supplies. We are excited to start the process of collecting and sending perfectly usable supplies from local US hospitals that otherwise are discarded. Defraying these costs will help our financial support go that much farther.
Increasing awareness is a constant endeavor through talks, publications, social media, and through professional organizations. Our founder, Grégoire Ahongbonon and his wife, Léontine, were recognized recently by the World Psychiatric Association for their humanitarian work as a result of our nomination. Lending our expertise is another area in which to help that has been requested by ASC.
Many thanks for staying with us on this journey. A special thank you to our newest donors, repeat donors, volunteers and consultants. Your role in bringing dignity to those with mental health challenges in West Africa is critical in the realization that mental health is a universal human right.
