Supporting Refugees in Uganda: A Call to Action
As Uganda continues to welcome those seeking safety, we face an urgent need to support the influx of refugees, particularly from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). With over 1.8 million refugees currently residing in Uganda, our nation hosts the largest refugee population in Africa.
In recent months, nearly 35,000 individuals have arrived, many escaping escalating conflict in their home countries. Unfortunately, the recent halt of support from USAID has placed immense pressure on organizations like I Live Again Uganda, which provides vital mental health services in refugee settlements.
Our team is on the ground, working hard to keep up with this increased need. Our work is crucial in helping these courageous individuals cope with trauma and rebuild their lives—individuals like Irene.
"I feel I can move on with life without looking in the past," Irene shared after completing the Mental Health Program with I Live Again Uganda. After the loss of her husband in South Sudan, she made the long journey to Uganda to seek safety. She struggled with replaying the traumatic moment when rebels attacked her home, leading to sleepless nights filled with recurring nightmares. However, after her first day in the program, she slept soundly. Day after day for two weeks, Irene attended without fail. She has renewed hope and looks forward to a bright future for herself and her children. "I'm not focusing on the past anymore. I want to live in the present and move forward for myself and my children."
Our work is crucial in helping these courageous individuals cope with trauma and rebuild their lives.
Join us in making a difference: whether through donations or spreading the word about the challenges refugees face. Together, we can offer hope and healing to those who need it most
