Here are some of the lives we’ve changed:
Fruity Pebbles
Fruity Pebbles was found as a stray in AL. The nice lady who found her could not keep her and reached out to our southern rescue partner Lauri. While Lauri was in the process of trying to find a suitable foster for Fruity Pebbles, she got loose and got hit by a car. She was immediately rushed to the emergency vet and it was determined she would need a full hip replacement which was a costly surgery. Lauri made several calls and finally her personal vet agreed to do the surgery at no cost as they had a new surgeon on board who could benefit from doing the surgery. Fruity Pebbles had the surgery and was using that leg a few days later, found an amazing foster home with Lauri and absolutely thrived there. Fruity Pebbles is something special - she loved the foster puppies in her foster home and played auntie to them all while she recovered. Fruity Pebbles was listed for adoption and the most amazing adopter applied. The adopter has been looking for well over a year for what we call a unicorn. Pittie, female, 2-3 years old, good with other dogs, cats, people and kids. Fruity Pebbles checked off every box!!
Fruity Pebbles is now named Neleh and she is perfect according to her mom. She loves the kitty in the home, has had several play dates with friends dogs and met and adored all of the neighborhood kids! We couldn’t ask for a more perfect ending for both Neleh and her mom! They were fated to be together!
Gigi
GiGi - a stray that roamed the streets of Memphis for the first couple years of her life who was scared of everything, had her puppies on a church step and was trapped by having her puppy in the cage to save her. She was fostered in Memphis for 6 months before coming up to New England, where she started in one foster home and then came to me. Any movement she cowered in the corner, wouldn’t eat when being watched, stayed in her crate where she knew she was safe.
She was my project foster, who quickly opened up to me and allowed me to pet her, then would eat with me by her, and even snuggled. My dog Jade taught her how to dog, and how the world isn’t as scary as GiGi thought. She is full of surprises, as for the first month she would go outside in the yard to potty and then run back inside, wouldn’t leave the yard. Then we worked on car confidence, and leash walking confidence and this girl runs to the door when she hears the cabinet open that stores the harnesses and leashes. She not only will take treats from a closed hand now, but will also stand on her back legs to try to help herself with the treats from my treat pouch.
To the dog who wouldn’t make eye contact, would tremble and knew only to keep to herself has become a confident playful dog. She waits at the window watching me walk through the yard, has found her voice to alert when strangers are around. And is a wonderful snuggler in bed.
